MR Writer's Club: What is making you happy right now?

The Joys of Breaking the Fast
Reading about the new MR Writer’s Club made me really happy.
HA!
In earnest, what actually made me happy was the fact that I read the article while I was preparing a huge breakfast at noontime on a Monday.

Yes, huge breakfasts on mondays make me incredibly happy. And if I say huge breakfast I mean HUGE. Different kinds of bread and pastries, marmalade, chocolate spread ,chocolate sprinkles, PBJ-fixings, hummus, cheese from all over the world, all the pestos Barilla has to offer and of course a variety of hot and cold beverages. I am mostly accompanied by my hilarious boyfriend, who mostly adds boiled or scrambled eggs to his breakfast(you know, guys and their proteins...). And while we eat, we listen to a wonderful soul-jazz radio-station from Vienna, which reminds me of the time we had to deal with a long distance relationship.

And it seems that there are many more breakfast-loving-students like me in Berlin. There are hundreds of bars, which serve breakfast till 6pm or even longer and for really cheap prices. For example, in my favorite Café right across the street from my apartment they serve a good quality all-you-can-eat Breakfast plate above for only 10 Euros (= 12 Dollars!).

yes, this used to be a huge breakfast!

Now, you may ask yourself “what fancy lifestyle does this girl have if she does not participate in the standard western working routine but actually spends the most hated day of the week with blurring the Boundaries between breakfast and lunch?" Let me tell you: I am a student, living in Berlin and working at an IT-company 20h per week. Therefore, I am kind of stuck between the serious, hard-working-hustle and the more or less motivated finding process of a student in Berlin. So, huge Breakfasts mean that I don’t have any important appointments that I need to get up early for.

On my working days I barely have the time to have a proper breakfast let alone a hot coffee (I hate to burn my tongue) because I somehow always get up too late (thanks, Snooze function!). “The thought process of getting dressed”, as described by Leandra, finally kills the last minutes I could have spared for a tiny bite before I leave the house exhausted and swearing to never hit the snooze button again.

And this is why I love huge breakfasts. It gives me a break from being stressed, tired and the constant feeling of being too late. Generally speaking, the word “breakfast” derives from “breaking the fast”, to have the first meal after fasting. But for me it also means to break free from the fast and exhausting working life, the need of always being somewhere on time in a metropolis where everybody is flipping out if the subway is 3 minutes late. It helps me to decelerate, to enjoy the little things in life and to have some quality time with my loved ones, without being too tired to listen or to talk.
